“It was a dark and stormy night” is the first darkly compelling line in “A Terrible Nightmare,” a story by Alamosa Elementary student Marquis Crawford that is proudly displayed on the school’s recently updated website.
The fact that Crawford may have borrowed the well-known opening line matters not a whit; what matters is that Crawford was able to get on his computer, get on the school’s website and write to his delight, and to his literary fans’ delight, after it has been reviewed by his classroom teacher.
The Albuquerque Public Schools Web team is the midst of a multiyear project to standardize and better link all school websites. The goal is to make them easier to use by improving search capabilities, teacher communication with students and families and the district’s ability to announce news and events.
The effort was kicked off with the revamping of the central APS district website, aps.edu.
